Calgary fire crews battle huge grass fire

The Calgary Fire Department was kept busy Saturday afternoon with a huge grass fire and small house fire.

A blaze broke out about 2:00 between Symons Valley Road and Township Road 261A north of 144 Ave and 53 St. NW.  Calgary crews along with crews from Rockyview and Airdrie.   Approximately 640 acres were burned, however no buildings were damaged and no injuries were reported.

Earlier in the afternoon, fire crews were called to a home on Penbrook Drive SE for reports of a house fire.  When they arrived, crews found smoke coming from the home.  The fire was quickly extinguished.  Two adults and three dogs escaped from the home.
