Alderman Dianne Colley-Urquhart says council may need to get involved after the recent shootings in the Beltline this weekend.
Two men were shot near the 900 block of 17 Avenue SW early Sunday morning. Colley-Urqhart says she's concerned because the area has a high number of bars, combined with a large number of people who live in the area. She says, "You know, I would far sooner the industry clean up their problems and deal with it and be responsible than having a bunch of regulations and getting the province involved and the city bringing in tougher bylaws. But if we have to do it, we will."
Colley-Urquhart says aldermen may have to revisit the idea of staggered closing hours, or limiting the number of drinks that can be served in bars at closing time.
