Calgary professor warns of pointing fingers too early after oil spill

7/28/2010

Three million litres of oil have leaked from a Calgary based Enridge pipeline into the Kalamazoo River in southern Michigan, coating birds and fish. Dr. Bob Shultz, Haskayne's Professor of Business at the University of Calgary tells QR77 News, it may not be the fault of Enbridge. He says it's important first and foremost to discover how the leak started in the first place. He says he's also surprised that three million litres of oil leaked because there is usually a shut-off valve.
State officials say the oil stretches for about 26 kilometres downstream of the spill, but they don't believe it will reach Lake Michigan. Meantime, Enbridge says it has doubled the number of workers responding to the spill, to 300.
