The Juravinski Hospital & Cancer Centre redevelopment project has officially been completed.
Confetti rained down on hospital officials and the Ontario Health Minister today, during a celebration of the 'on-time and on-budget' project.
The new JHCC adds more than 450-thousand square feet of new and renovated space, increasing bed capacity from 234 to 338.
The expansion features more single patient rooms -- which are both more comfortable from a patient perspective and safer when it comes to infection control.
The JHCC also fetures a new state-of-the-art Emergency Department and an impressive Surgical Suite -- with nine large, fully equipped operating rooms.
Hospital President Dr. Bill Evans says the place fulfills a vision shares by staff, physicians, patients, volunteers and the community.
Work on the project began back in February of 2008 and at the peak of construction, EllisDon had upwards of 500 workers on-site every day.
Charles & Margaret Juravinski kicked a total of 20 million dollars into the project.
