It's full steam ahead for the 312 million dollar redevelopment of Burlington's Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital.
The first phase, construction of the Halton McMaster Family Health Centre and a parking structure on the site are to begin by the end of the year, thanks to a 22.5 million dollar provincial grant.
The project also calls for a new tower on the hospital site, new operating rooms and in-patient beds, a new intensive care unit, renovations to diagnostic services and the emergency department.
Hospital CEO Eric Vandewall says the funding, confirmed on Friday morning by Liberal M-P-P Ted McMeekin, addresses immediate cash flow needs and is earmarked for design and planning work.
A fundraising campaign is well underway to raise the community's 60 million dollar share of the project. The City of Burlington has also committed 60 million.
The province affirmed its commitment to the redevelopment within its controversial spring budget.
