A 14 year veteran with Hamilton Police is facing Police Act charges for having inappropriate sexual relationships with potential witnesses.
Sgt. Derek Mellor is accused of engaging in, or attempting to engage in sexual activity with various witnesses, and other individuals connected to a human trafficking investigation he was involved with.
The CBC cites documents which state Mellor used his character and position as a member of the Hamilton Police Service for private advantage.
Mellor is accused of nine counts of discreditable conduct, one count of insubordination and one count of corrupt practice between May 2011 and November 2012.
Mellor has reserved his plea and proceedings will continue on July 30th.

Hamilton police are investigating a pair of overnight break and enters and believe they were committed by the same suspect.
The first incident happened sometime between 10:30 Monday night and 6am Tuesday at a home on Candlewood Drive while the occupants were asleep.
Police say a suspect entered the home through an unlocked sliding patio door. Personal belongongs from two purses were taken, including car keys. The suspect used them to steal the family car; a blue Toyota Matrix which was parked in the driveway.
Also early Tuesday between 1 and 5am, a home on Shadyglen Drive was broken into, again while the homeowner slept. The suspect was able to get in by sliding open an unlocked kitchen window. A wallet, electronics and the family car, a 2003 blue Ford Focus which was parked in the driveway, was stolen.

Seven people have been arrested after a pellet gun shooting at a school on Locke Street in Hamilton.
Police have also seized a number of pellet rifles and pellet guns after windows on the Stanley Avenue side of St. Joseph's Catholic Elementary were damaged at about 11:20 on Wednesday morning.
The school was placed under lockdown for a short time.
Media Relations Officer Debbie McGreal-Dinning says no students or staff were injured and she stresses that there is no ongoing community or public safety concern.

A change at the top of ArcelorMittal Dofasco.Juergen Schachler will be leaving the company, to take another position with ArcelorMittal Europe, with responsibilities in Spain, the South of France and Italy. In a letter to employees, Schachler wrote:

The lineup has announced for this summer's version of Hamilton's largest free music festival.
More than 40 artists will appear on four stages during the Festival of Friends including Theory Of A Deadman, Mickey Hart of The Grateful Dead, Taboo of The Black Eyed Peas and Daniel Powter.
Organizer Loren Lieberman has also thrown in "a twist" announcing that Chubby Checker is part of the lineup.
Other artists listed include Rik Emmett of Triumph, Five Man Electrical Band, David Clayton Thomas, Dragonette, Maestro Fresh Wes and Jake Miller.
Lieberman is hopeful that they've "covered as many tastes as can be".
Festival of Friends is into its third year at the Ancaster Fairgrounds and will run from August.9th to the 11th.

An emotional homecoming for two Hamilton men.34-year-old Nick Miele and his 18-year-old cousin Ben Costantini landed at Pearson Airport last night.The two men, who were in a Dominican Republic jail for three weeks, were greeted by family and friends.They were facing a two-year sentence and 100-thousand dollar fine in connection with a fight at a resort that left a Montreal man in hospital.But all charges against the pair were dropped on Monday.A close family friend tells the Spectator the family spent about 45-thousand dollars on flights, hotel rooms and lawyers' fees, and alleges that 25-thousand dollars was paid to Dominican authorities before the men were released.

The Lister Block is getting a new tenant.
"Lister Arts" will lease space on the ground floor in the restored, city-owned heritage building to display, promote and sell the work of local artists.
City councillors have approved an agreement which takes effect on July.1st. It means that all available ground floor space within the building has been leased out.
Director Neil Everson does add that the downtown office vacancy rate edge up slightly last year to 12.8% after Tourism Hamilton and staff from various city developments moved into the Lister Block when it reopened last spring.
Compared to five years ago, that vacancy rate is still down about 40%.
Everson notes that his office is working with three companies as it tries to reduce that number even further.

The Ticats are gearing up for their second and final pre-season game on Thursday night.It will mark the team's first ever game in Guelph, when they host the Blue Bombers at Alumni Stadium.Quarterback Henry Burris will start against Winnipeg, and the same can be said for other veterans who didn't play last week in Montreal.

It seems a lot of motorists in Hamilton forget how to park their vehicles.City officials received 417 complaints last year, about parked cars facing the wrong way.That's up from 300 complaints in 2010.And most of the complaints come in from your neighbours.Police and bylaw officers handed out 18-hundred wrong-way parking tickets last year, totalling 46-thousand dollars.

A 93 year old man who was hit by a truck in his driveway over the weekend, has died of his injuries.
The Stoney Creek man was having a new roof installed on his home on Hwy #8 when one of the contractor's pick up trucks hit him as the driver backed up in the driveway.
The victim was knocked to the ground where he struck his head.
Jovan Andic passed away Monday.
This is the City's 6th traffic fatality and the 3rd one involving a pedestrian.
The collision remains under investigation by Police and the Ministry of Labour. Any witnesses who have not spoken to police about the incident are asked to do so.
