Hamilton area hospitals are having to find more efficiencies after being told
their budgets are frozen.
Health Minister Deb Matthews says there has to be a 're-balancing' of
Ontario Health care spending because too many people are in hospitals
when they could go home if proper support was in place.
Hamilton Paramedic and OPSUE local 256 President Mario Pasteraro
says EMS workers should be allowed to conduct more triage of patients
in the field.
Particularly, if it means those patients should be directed to services out
side the hospital.
Pasteraro hopes the cuts won't include the E-R off load nurses who help to get
EMS workers back into the field faster.
