Niagara's police chief says a number of families have been shattered after an early morning crash in wine country.
The head-on collision near Pelham that left three dead
and five in the hospital happened early this morning on Highway 20 near Victoria Avenue.
Investigators add that a westbound vehicle drifted into
the eastbound lanes at about 1AM. One of the cars burst into flames upon impact, killing
three of the four people inside.
The victims have not yet been identified, but family members say occupants of one of the two vehicles were
returning from the Hamilton airport after a trip to Calgary.
Police are looking into whether speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
