With the mercury set to spike, the Burlington Fire Department has issued a fire ban.
All burning permits are suspended until further notice and all outside fires including permitted open air burns within the City of Burlington are prohibited.
Burlington Fire warns that brush fires can rapidly spread during periods of hot weather with limited rain, and that a small grass fire can quickly become a very large wildfire.
Residents are reminded to use caution when using outdoor candles and other backyard items that may produce heat or flame.
People failing to comply are subject to prosecution and fines of up to $50,000. The City of Burlington has also set a cost recovery charge of up to $410 per responding vehicle where open air burning is not approved.
