The Special Investigations unit has concluded its probe into the deaths of two Saltfleet highschool students in Hamilton last weekend.
SIU Director Ian Scott says the off-duty officer who encountered 17-year-old Alex McCormack and 17-year-old Irn Mace on the Jolley Cut was in no way responsible for their deaths.
Scott says the officer in question was attempting to avert a potentially dangerous situation by first calling in to report the youths, as well as speaking with them personally, warning them that they were in an unsafe area.
Scott says investigators recovered suicide notes written by both McCormack and Mace. The cause of death has been determined to be blunt force trauma due to descent from height.
