The family of a 27 year old Hamilton man, killed in an interaction with police, has hired a lawer to investigate his death.
Phonesay Chanthachack was shot by police as he sat in a stolen van in February.
According to the Special Investigations Unit, Chanthachack was blocked in the Albright Road parking lot and drove directly at an officer, who had gotten out of his vehicle to arrest him.
The SIU concluded Constable Ryan Tocher, who was struck by the van, had good reason to believe his life was at risk.
He was cleared of any wrongdoing.
However, Lawyer Bob Munroe says the use of lethal force by police should be a matter for a public inquiry.
