6/7/2012

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats offence has suffered a big blow.

Running back Martell Mallett will miss the 2012 CFL season with a torn Achilles after getting injured at training camp today.

The story quickly spread like wildfire on Twitter, with many pundits believing the Ticats could possibly bring Avon Cobourne back.

Mallett was the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie in 2009 with the B.C Lions when he rushed for 1,280 yards and six touchdowns.

He also caught 43 passes that season for 342 yards and two TDs.

Mallett also spent som time over the last two years with the NFL's Eagles, Giants and Browns.

The 33-year-old Cobourne spent just one season in Hamilton and led the Ticats with 961 rushing yards last year while adding eight majors.

Other free agent running backs who are still looking for work include longtime Stampeder Joffrey Reynolds and longtime Roughrider Wes Cates.
