Ontario's New Democrats say the cost of saving a Liberal seat during the last provincial election was at least 82 million dollars.
The NDP's Michael Prue notes that an American hedge fund which is suing the province for $300 million for cancelling the construction of a gas plant in Mississauga, has rejected an $82.3 million-dollar offer from the Ontario Power Authority.
Prue is now asking Ontario's auditor general to look at the potential costs of the Liberal government's decision to cancel plants in Oakville and Mississauga.
The Liberals cancelled a planned 280 megawatt gas plant in Mississauga just days before last year's election, after scrapping another one in Oakville the year before. The opposition parties say the plants were cancelled to save Liberal seats.
