A young man is missing and presumed drowned in the Niagara River.
The 22-year old man was with friends enjoying a barbeque on the shores of the Niagara Whirlpool Saturday afternoon when he decided to enter the water to cool off.
But he was soon struggling in the strong current and couldn't reach shore.
The current also prevented others from reaching him.
Emergency crews responded just after 4 p.m.
But a two-hour search, involving Niagara Police, Niagara Helicopters, Whirlpool Jet Boats, the U-S Coast Guard and Erie County Sheriff's Department, failed to locate the man.
His name hasn't been released.
