As many as 2-thousand people have now joined a Facebook group demanding the City of Hamilton return a pit bull to its owner.
The 8-year-old dog named "Mercedes" was picked up by animal control on Friday after it escaped from its yard.
It isn't spayed which is a violation of the provincial pit bull ban.
The city's Debbie Spence says the animal control department has promised not to euthanize "Mercedes," but it will be shipped out of the province once it is spayed.
The owner says he can't understand why he won't be allowed to adopt his dog back once she's fixed.
