A few dozen people have gathered today for a conference about young parents and those supporting them.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Jean Clinton says society needs to help young parents remove the barriers that prevent them from being the best parents they can be.
The renowned child psychiatrist says there is a high percentage of kids as young as 13 having babies -- and there's an association between poverty and early pregnancy.
Add premature babies into that group and Clinton says there are things layering on top of each other that young parents need help with -- so we need to rally around that population if we hope to make Hamilton the best place to raise a child.
Clinton says there are terrific supports in town if teens get pregnant, including the Young Parent Network of Hamilton.
