Hamilton is taking aim at the charity clothing and small goods donation boxes you can find in almost any mall parking lot.
The city says they are unregulated, difficult to police and magnets for illegal dumping.
Councillor Maria Pearson says something many people don't know is that even though the signage on the bins says they benefit charity, many are operated by for-profit businesses with only a small slice — or nothing — going to charitable organizations.
Pearson has asked city staff to come up with a policy regulating the charity bins and report back to council with a proposal.
