There's still no word when the Burlington Lift Bridge will reopen to motorists and pedestrians, but freighters are once again moving into and out of Hamilton Harbour.
Crews worked through the night and have been able to raise the bridge high enough for the safe passage of marine traffic.
The lift bridge was closed to everyone, drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and ships at about 9:30 on Tuesday morning when a cable broke and left the span stuck about halfway up.
Two freighters anchored in Lake Ontario through the night waiting to enter the harbour. Three more were scheduled to arrive on Wednesday.
No time frame has been set for reopening the bridge to road traffic as engineers continue to assess the problem.
