Municipal affairs minister defending expenses
3:14am
Alberta's municipal affairs minister is defending the $30-million cost to administer the province's $203 million flood damage assistance program. Hector Goudreau says the bill covers a lot of expenses, including travel for officials, setting up offices, and hourly fees of employees. He notes that the program also covers more than just homeowners' losses, it also covers losses suffered by businesses, farmers and municipalities. The province set aside the relief money in July to help compensate victims of flooding in Medicine Hat, the town of Irvine and Cypress County. (aw/The Canadian Press)
