It was supposed to be a fun, free event in support of the Edmonton Food Bank. Instead, one woman is dead after what looks like a stunt gone horribly wrong.
Police have confirmed that a 20 year old woman died on arrival to hospital.
Scott Pattison with Edmonton Police Service says they are looking for anyone who may have seen the incident.
"This was a demonstration event, and from what I understand people video tape those various demonstrations. If anyone has video on the event you are asked to call EPS or Crimestoppers."
This is the second year of the Jeeps Go Topless Day, and according to Corus Alberta's Daryll Hooke, it looks like the collision involved two of the participating Jeeps.
“Two of the jeeps must have been trying to do some form of demonstration or they were stunting. And one of them has flipped over on its side and another one has been pushed up against a light post. And unconfirmed reports from some of the people there is they said there was a fatality, but everyone is tight lipped an no one is really sharing any information.”

The level 3 fire ban for the city of Calgary has been lifted just in time for the long weekend. Acting Fire Chief Tom Sampson says thanks to some rainfall and the recent cooler conditions, the ban is no longer necessary. Those back yard fire pits, camp stoves and solid fuel barbecues are now useable again. However, Sampson does remind Calgarians that we still have to be careful as grass fire season is upon us, and there are still wildfires burning in the province.
Meantime, the city of Red Deer and Mountain View County have announced their fire bans have also been lifted. However, people are still being asked to use extreme caution when using any kind of fire. Mountain View County covers the area north of Calgary and including Sundre, Didsbury, Olds, and Carstairs.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of a woman and her son in Evanston earlier in the week. They were called to Evanspark Circle NW during Thursday's noon-hour. The victims have been identified as Chona Manzano, 35, and Gabriel Manzano, 5. The suspect, Guevara Wilson Clorina, 26, was arrested near Didsbury later in the afternoon. Staff Sergeant Doug Andrus says he was arrested without incident, but had to be taken to hospital with injuries he suffered prior to being found, although Andrus wouldn't say whether they were self-inflicted or not. Clorina's said to be related to the victims, but isn't immediate family and didn't live in the Evanston home. Andrus says they are still trying to determine a motive. Clorina will be in court on Tuesday.

Alberta Premier Alison Redford has announced that new officers will be opened to help with Alberta's trade concerns. It's an ambitious international strategy launched by the province, which will see six new offices opened up in places like India, Singapore and Southern China as well as a doubling up of resources in Beijing. Redford says it's important to open up new export markets to get a fair price for Alberta's products and this will help accomplish that. She alluded to the idea that what goes on in places like Beijing will have a direct impact on what happens in Alberta communities like Brooks. Alberta exported $95-billion worth of goods in 2012.

The May long weekend is upon us and some familiar advice is being passed on by the Calgary Police traffic section. The unofficial start of summer could be classified as the unofficial start to the backyard barbeque and beer season for many. Constable Jim Lebedeff is hopeful those staying inside city limits stay safe and don't drink and drive. For those heading out of the city, he is preaching patience and safety. He says you'll need to be extra careful with more motorcycles and trailers on the road. He adds they will be keeping a close eye on regular issues like distracted driving and seatbelts, although he's quick to point out that 98% of motorists are buckling up. Lebedeff says the bottom line is have fun and do it safely, so we all finish the weekend on a positive note.\
Meantime, the weekend didn't get off to a good start for a number of motorists on the QEII between Calgary and Edmonton. Officers handed out 273 speeding tickets on Thursday alone, including four drivers who were clocked at more than 150km/h. As many as 40 officers spent time on the busy highway, where they also handed out 24 seatbelt tickets, ...
