Seven people are dead, and two critically injured following a head-on crash on Highway 63 near Wandering River. Wood Buffalo RCMP were called to the scene sometime after one o'clock Friday afternoon. Investigators say two pick-up trucks slammed into each other killing six on impact. A 34-year-old man, a young boy and a teen girl who was pulled from the burning wreckage by passing motorists before first responders arrived where air lifted to hospitals in Edmonton. The teen died a short time later in hospital. Early investigation points to a northbound truck pulling out to pass another vehicle and colliding with the southbound truck. The notorious highway that's common route between Edmonton and the Oilsands was closed for seven hours, but has since re-opened, although Mounties are advising against travel as road conditions remain poor.
Meantime one person is dead and a young child taken by STARS to hospital after a crash on a highway in South-Central Alberta. RCMP say a car and pick-up truck collided around 7:30 Friday evening on Highway 9, east of Hanna.
