So after Friday’s game, the Eskimos have nowhere else to go but up. Early in the game they got chances to score and use the momentum off some good drives by Matt Nichols and the offence. I thought Nichols played pretty well. He made some very good passes to his receivers; one which included the Stamps touchdown. But there were some drops by the receivers that shouldn’t have been. If there were a few less of these, we wouldn’t have had so many missed opportunities. Even if Edmonton did have more completed passes though, they couldn’t stop Number 9. At first, Cornish had nowhere to go. The Esks managed to not let Cornish move the ball for 28 yard gains. Once J.C Sherritt got taken out of the game though, what happens? Jon Cornish runs for a 73 yard rushing touchdown. One of the Eskimos’ problems on defence for the last few games is stopping the run. 589 yards on 65 carries and 4 touchdowns. In order for the defence to become unstoppable we need to be able to stop the run and pass.
So what did everyone think about Daryl Katz’s little trip to Seattle? I mean sure, he might have been frustrated or disappointed with the progress of the arena. But to go and put Oiler fans in a situation like that is not right. It was a disappointing move by the Oilers organization. Everyone had many questions. Are we going to become the Seattle Oilers, what is going to happen to the Oiler fans? But calm down Oiler fans! There is nothing to fear. We are still the Edmonton Oilers. I thought it was a very classy move by Mr. Katz to write that apologetic letter. He knows he made a mistake by visiting Seattle through disappointment. But he appreciates the support and concern of Oilers fans. I want to thank Daryl Katz for his letter to Edmonton. I hope the arena deal gets done. I think that we need a new arena to revitalize downtown and it needs to be nice. Our arena can’t be in the middle of nowhere. Places like Ottawa and Phoenix have theirs in random places. Ottawa’s is in Kanata. Basically like having our’s in Sherwood Park. Phoenix has theirs in Glendale. Another random far away place. After and before a game, do you want to hang out around Rexall? No! In fact most people want to be away from that area of town. There’s no bars, restaurants, hotels, or casino’s down there. We want to have an arena district like LA. They have a beautiful arena. There’s hotels, restaurants, etc. So to conclude, I want an arena built A.S.A.P and I would like it downtown. Trust me, I have seen other markets transformed with a downtown arena, we need to be one of those markets.
