Here is the latest from 630 CHED Sports Intern Josh Hui
After a very disappointing week in the CFL, the Eskimos need to have a team meeting or somehow find a way to get on the same page before Saturday’s game against Hamilton. There were too many plays where players looked like they had no idea what they were doing! Otherwise, it’s going to turn into one of those “what if Jyles didn’t get injured” seasons. No disrespect to Kerry Joseph. The Eskimos put forth a strong enough effort to win but can’t seem to finish the job. They could go into this game and end up with another loss. . The Eskimos could take advantage of a disappointed group of Tiger Cats as they haven’t had the season they were hoping for. With star players such as Fantuz and Burris brought in, Hamilton should come up with the “W”. But like the Eskimos, they are very inconsistent. I think it will be a good test for the Eskimos considering they could use a win and a Calgary loss. At this part of the CFL season, wins are crucial. No more “it’s only week 3 so a loss is ok.” If we want another long playoff run like last season, we need wins and perhaps a playoff game at home wouldn’t be so bad either!
Now let me address something that really bugs me. Our so called “three headed monster” doesn’t work!! Here are the stats: In two games, Hugh Charles has 12 carries for 47 yards, Cory Boyd has 1 carry for 6 yards (he was scratched from the lineup on Labour Day), and finally Jerome Messam had 10 carries for 40 yards. We need ONE running back and one quarter back. Hugh Charles started the season as the number one and got at least 10 carries a game. Now he only gets 3-9 carries a game. Cory Boyd started the season as the league's leading rusher. Now he’s seventh in the league. Add Jerome Messam from Miami and Calvin McCarty, now what? We have to give each player equal playing time but it’s very hard to with 4 backs. Eric Tillman, Kavis Reed, if you guys have a plan, hats off to ya! Something’s going to have to be decide soon!
