I realize this is a tacky realization but I was at the Winners Choice Lottery show home the other day and wondered; who do I have to be to own a house like this??? This nearly 2 million dollar house is gorgeous but in real life how would I get it? Would I have to be a lawyer, a doctor, a restaurateur? What?? I’m a serious house watcher and when I say serious I mean serious. I drive through neighbourhood after neighbourhood wondering who lives there and how they managed to swing the coin on such palatial houses. I can assure you radio stars seldom live in such digs.
Of course just because they own the house doesn’t mean they aren’t mortgaged to the hilt. AND, it doesn’t mean the house is a home. A home comes in all sizes and is a place where your mind travels many times a day. It’s the place that smells good and has your favourite quilt on the couch. It’s the place where the tub welcomes your weary bones. It’s the place your kids learn to ride bikes, fall outta trees and graduate from school. It’s the place your thanksgiving dinner is enjoyed by family and friends.
A home needs a heart, laughter, tears and offers respite from the trials of everyday life. It’s the place you make cookies and read on rainy Sunday afternoons. A home makes you smile just thinking about it. A home is something you build your entire life. If you have a palatial house tell me how you got it, if you have a palatial home tell the people who helped build it.
Happy Thanksgiving…and remember thank you is a simple phrase that says sooo much.
