Primeau & Grose: Behind the Scenes

This Drives Me Crazy!
Posted 9/14/2012 6:37:00 AM

The Nitehawk Winter and Summer Recreation area in Grande Prairie has hired me to come up there on the 22nd for their 16th Annual Comedy Night Fundraiser and have now asked my opening act and I to help promote the show. Could we Tweet it? Facebook it? Mention it on our websites? Sure we can. I too want a full room to perform to.

My first stop... the customer's website to see what the details are so I can include that in the tweets, texts, posts and mentions. This is what I found:

Tickets will also be available on our website in the coming months, by clicking the “BUY ONLINE” button at the top of our homepage.

This drives me crazy! So you're holding a fundraiser and you've hired a comedian that also happens to be on 630CHED and who is on a show that has hundreds if not thousands of listeners in Grande Prairie but you didn't want to bother mentioning his name? You mention that tickets can be bought by using the "buy me" link but forgot to add tickets to that link? You're now a little over a week out from the show, haven't sold all your tickets and now need the comedian's to help you sell? I'm not a roast beef dinner. I'm not a door prize. I'm an entertainer with a name and, believe it or not, I have fans that would like to see me perform but for them to do that you have to actually tell them I'm coming.

It's an insult to all comedians to suggest that we're all the same and by not using our names that's what you're suggesting. "Tonight we're featuring turkey dinner and comedy." Okay I guess we all know what turkey and comedy tastes like. November 28th there's a singer at Rexall. The tickets aren't selling you say? Maybe we should mention it's Paul McCartney. Why bother? Aren't all singers the same?

Promotion is so easy and yet so many companies completely mess it up and then blame the performer. "We thought he'd sell more tickets but I guess people are tired of comedy." NO!!!! You didn't give them any reason to buy a ticket! Who is coming? Why would I want to see them? How do I buy the tickets? Come on people... this isn't brain surgery.
