Primeau & Grose: Behind the Scenes

Love Bill Clinton

Politics! Even if you want to run from it, politics shadow your every move. Politicians in Canada are trying to make hay, wherever they are. Tories in Alberta are trying to prove to mere mortals they are honest and above board; hence the new spending disclosure guidelines. Wild Rose folk are trying to prove they’re the government in waiting; hence the massive numbers of emails to every major media outlet deriding every breath the Tories take.

Then we have the Quebec issue. Will the separate, are they gearing up for more power from Ottawa, are they really a distinct society?  Canadians are so tired of the BS I have a feeling no one even knew the government of the province changed! It’s not like any leader there was a particularly compelling speaker!

In Ottawa the PM is treading softly, the Liberals are trying to come up with a new leader and the NDP are still a tad rudderless. None of those parties has a particularly good speaker either. Why is a good speaker worth their weight in gold?? Look south………..way south and just listen to President Bill Clinton at the Democratic National Party’s anointing of President Obama. With his folksy, aw shucks charm and attention to fine fine detail, that man can charm the vote from a skunk!! He knows just when to focus on the crowd or one delegate in particular. He knows when to smile, laugh, pause or blunder. Frankly he’s the whole enchilada.  I bet more Canadians watched him last night than watched the results of the Quebec election.

What we need are a couple of great politicians. What we have are so so humdrum neophytes. Why are the great speakers needed? Because if you don’t have a voice no one cares what you have to say, they aren’t going to bother listening!

As a citizen of this great city, province and country you have a responsibility and duty to know what’s happening; to be a part of the direction. Yet, for the most part, we say a silent prayer, cross our fingers and let what happens, happen. There are no voices, let alone ones we’d actually stop and listen to!
