I know you get tired of hearing me whine about remotes and the challenges so I'm happy to say this crazy week is over after today. I got through K-Days, the Tuesday solo show, The DQ Miracle Treat Day and now we're off to Churchill Square for A Taste of Edmonton. It's a full show outside and downtown and then I'm headed home to recharge for another week.
It was funny at DQ yesterday that, at one point, we lost all of our mics except mine and while I scrambled to cover the time and our operator scrambled to get the other mics up and running I received this text:
"Andrew you just talk and talk and never say anything. I'm switching stations."
A year ago that would have hurt my feelings but not anymore. I know what was going on at that moment and I know I did everything I could to keep the show going while everyone around me checked cables, turned dials and tapped on mics and the station talked to me through my headset. I dare anyone to remain perfectly calm and not be distracted while on live radio under those circumstances. I also know, by the way, that some people just love to tell me they're "switching stations." The same texter has "switched stations" 12 times in the last 3 months. I guess their radio is broken.
I met a lot of our listeners at yesterday's remote including some old friends I haven't seen in awhile. It was nice to see just who listens. They ranged from teenagers to seniors and I'm glad to have you all aboard. One lady did some research on one of our topics and went to the trouble of writing it all down and driving to the DQ to give it to me. I say it all the time... we have the greatest listeners in the world... even the cranky ones.
