I have the opportunity to once again work with J'Lyn Nye today. I'm really enjoying having different people to work with on the 630 CHED Afternoon News. They each have their own habits:
J'Lyn likes to suggest topics, she prefers that I control her mic, she reads the weather, I read the tags and respond to texts. Morley prefers I pick the topics but he likes to suggest music, he likes to control his own mic, he reads the weather and he reads the tags and texts on his laptop. Lesley prefers that the person running the board do everything but she NEVER does anything with the texts. It usually takes me an hour to remember everyone's preferences.
My habits change depending on who I'm working with. If Lesely's running the show I arrive at 3:04. If I'm running the show with Lesley I arrive at 2:45. If I'm with Morley or J'Lyn I try to get in by 2:30 so I can spend a few minutes going over the topics and laying a plan for how we'll advance the topic.
J'Lyn likes to know the topic the night before. Morley prefers to be told in the morning. Lesely likes to know by 3. Morley likes to discuss the topic in advance and figure out roughly where we're going with it. J'Lyn will spend a few minutes outlining the topic but is okay with finding out my point of view as the show unfolds and Lesley and I NEVER pre-plan our positions. We've learned whatever the topic is we're likely to disagree.
Leseley's preference for topics is politics. Morley likes slice of life and J'Lyn prefers quirky news items.
Morley drinks a medium coffee one cream, Lesley an orange pekoe black, J'Lyn nothing.
Me? I like the variety.
