Primeau & Grose: Behind the Scenes

I thought This Was Behind Me Part 2
Posted 6/2/2012 11:48:00 AM

So in the end it all worked out. Dan came in at 5:45 (as he always does) and offered to finish the show for me Friday. The extra few minutes helped get me to my son's junior high grad just in time. In fact I entered the gym with the last of the students. Carole had saved me a seat and I was able to sit back and enjoy my son's accomplishment.

It was after the grad that things got a little weird. Several parents approached me after the ceremony to let me know what their opinion was on some of the topics Primeau and I had tackled over the last few weeks right back to the Provincial election. A few felt they needed to let me know where they stood although the time to do that would have been during the show and not during a grad ceremony. A few just wanted to tell me they liked the show and one wanted to let me know she didn't. This was a first for me. I expect to talk to listeners after a comedy show because I've put myself out there as Andrew Grose from Primeau and Grose but I wasn't expecting it at a function where I was just there as a parent.

I guess this is something I'm going to have to get used to but it did feel really uncomfortable. Someone starts talking to you without introducing themselves and expects that you will take the time to have an in depth conversation with them when all you really want to do is get outside and be with your family. One person actually walked up and started talking to me while I was posing for this picture. My family handled it way better than I did. They just took it in stride and it seemed to amuse them that it through me off.

I want to meet our listeners. I want to talk to our  listeners. I'm grateful we have so many listeners. I just want to be able to have private times in public. Is that wrong of me?

This whole no zero policy drives me crazy. I work in a division where we follow the no zero policy and I have seen the results of that. Students who complete high school attempt to go to University and find out real quick what the real world is like. Some drop out as they can't handle the demands. Some who go to work can't handle the job and have told his/her boss that he doesn't have to follow the safety rules. What??!! I thought the whole reason for streaming students - meaning having 10-1, 10-2 and 10-3 course levels - was so that each student based on their ability could be successful. Should I go to med school even though I don't have the academic ability to do so - I wouldn't want me as a doctor. Why are we falsely allowing some students to get into University when they didn't earn their grades. We are creating anxiety ridden, spoiled children.

Good morning Andrew. I'm so glad that Dan relieved you so that you could make it to your son's grad. Some people feel that they already know you so well that they have no hesitation of interrupting your family time. In those cases it's best just to excuse yourself by saying this is so and so's day. Too bad it threw you off. Sometimes you just have to be gracious. :)

@heather mctavish That's good advice Heather. I definitely don't want to be rude to a listener especially a fan but I'm just not used to being recognised in a crowd and I didn't know how to handle it. I'll get better at it I promise.
