Primeau & Grose: Behind the Scenes

As I prepare for another day on the 630 CHED Afternoon News I know for the second day in a row I'll have to get off the air and run to my car to get to a stage. Last night it was Innisfail and I got there with 5 minutes to spare. I ate Hamburger Helper with my wife at midnight back in Edmonton. Today it's The River Cree Casino. I'm doing a show for the VIP guests of the casino that was arranged as part of the River Cree's sponsorship package of The Edmonton Comedy Festival. I hired Graham Neil to open for me because... guess what... we need to have a Festival meeting so from the stage I'll drive back to my house with Graham and we'll get that done at my kitchen table around 11. I hope the kids haven't eaten the leftover Hamburger Helper when I go looking for it at midnight.

I got up early this morning to drive my kids to school because I feel like we're not spending enough time together just talking. I want to be busy. I like being busy. But I never want to be so busy that I drift away from being a father and husband. I've often said that of all the hats I wear the one I'm proudest of is being a dad. I have such great kids . Not sure how that happened but I'll give the credit to my wife. She's an incredible mother.

Tomorrow I take off for Saskatoon to perform at a private function and 2 public ones. Another weekend away from my family but that's the life I chose when I became an entertainer. I can't tell you how many birthdays I've missed including my own. My family just rolls with it... it's all they've ever known. Will I slow down one day? Maybe... but I'll be the guy at the retirement home organizing the fundraiser. It's just the way I am.
