Primeau & Grose: Behind the Scenes

Can We Just Talk?

As I prepare for another afternoon on the radio it's in the back of my mind that I also have to prepare for another night on a stage. The Innisfail Rotary Club has hired me for the 3rd time in 6 years to come entertain at their "Friendship Night" and I haven't written 2 new acts in 6 years. Radio requires you to be new every day and, normally, comedy doesn't but today it does. So now the challenge is to talk for 3 hours on the radio and 1 hour on a stage and try to say nothing I've said before. Good Luck.

On radio you can have a conversation and depending on who you're talking to and who joins the conversation it can go in many directions. I never worry about contradicting anything I've said before because I believe everything I say so, unless I've completely changed my mind on something, my views rarely change. How I present them changes with the conversation. In comedy I can't have a conversation with anyone. It's a monologue and not a dialogue and if I try to engage the audience to burn time they're sure to wonder if I have an act. I do... you've all heard it twice before.

As for trying to put in material they didn't see the last 2 times I'd have to be able to remember what material I did the last 2 times. Anyone remember what they said in April of 2010 and April of 2008? I don't. I do have new material that I've written in the last 2 years but not an hour of it. My hope is that there will enough new faces and enough old ones with bad memories for me to try and sell my at one more time.

Radio is easy... comedy is hard.
