Many years ago I towed my Grandfather's 55 Buick to Edmonton. I spent quite a bit of time and quite a bit of money getting it road worthy, but I did. The longest trip i took with it was to Calgary. That was successful. However, it did seem for awhile that every time I started it, something else would break....old cars, fatgued metal...all that.
I happened to mention to my friend and then co-worker, Chris Sceetz, that I was actaully think of selling it about three years ago. His eyes lit up and he said it would be a great project for him to rebuild with his son Carter. Much to their credit, they also have spent a lot of time and even more money in getting it back on the road again (between the two of us, we probably could have bought a Porche by now).
I do remember driving that car to the Medicine Hat Stampede back in the early 70's. As we left the grounds, it was a blistering hot southern Alberta day and traffic just wasn't moving. With no air flowing through the radiator, I sat and watched as the temparature guage just kept rising. Evenutally I had to pull over, lift the hood and slowly, carefully lift the rad cap to let off some steam. I now recall that the thermostat in the thing was not that great and it did have a tendency to overheat when it was hot out. Yesterday, as you know, it hit 26. Chris went for a drive. He sent me this picture this morning. Hmmm....maybe I should have said something.
