Stanley Cup Final Prediction
Posted 5/30/2011 5:30:00 PM
7/8 in Round 1.

3/4 in Round 2.

2/2 in Round 3.

12/14 overall, which isn't bad. Way better than last year's disaster, too. I couldn't make a correct prediction to save my life. I was coming across like Harold Camping. In any event, there's only one series that matters. And damn, do I hope I'm wrong.

VANCOUVER vs. BOSTON

The Canucks have been leaps and bounds ahead of everybody else all season long. They dominated the regular season and have been, by a wide margin, the better team in each of their 3 playoff series. The Bruins, on the other hand, have looked strong but have definitely had some shake-and-bake en route to the Final.

Vancouver's depth is better at every position, though the high end of the Bruins defense is better than the high end of Vancouver's, and it's not at all unthinkable that Tim Thomas could outplay Roberto Luongo. If Boston plays a smashmouth, tough brand of hockey, it will be interesting to see how Vancouver reacts.

Problem is, the Canucks have taken every bit of adversity all season and spit it back out. They nearly choked against Chicago and tried their best to let Nashville and San Jose make it a series in both cases. However, here they are. No goaltending controversy, red hot forwards, excellent special teams, Manny Malhotra coming back...all things, essentially, are arrow up.

I hope they choke. I hope Boston finds a way. I hope Chara can shut down the Sedins, Thomas can outplay Luongo and Horton and company can outscore the depth of Vancouver.

I just don't think it will happen.

Tensor. I used to think you might be a good guy. I am now with the old lady that rants in your trailer or whatever you call it. Your new love for the Ruins sickens me. Not just because I am a Habs fan, but because I am also a fan for Western Canadian NHL teams, even your OILERS with their back to back top 30 finishes. The Ruins are Canada's team because they have more Canadians eh? Ruins stadium (or whatever they call it), where the fans chant USA! USA! their logic being that it doesn't matter how many Candians vs Americans on the roster, but rather where the team is located. These players go to where the money is, because money is where the loyalty is for both management and players. You may realize that when your Oilers try to resign Hall, Eberle, etc. Not to worry Tensor, if your Oilers ever manage to make the playoffs again, I will cheer for them. And, I will be waiting to see if you whine about the Oiler haters cheering against you. Believe me, I will help your memory if that becomes the case. That, of course, is under the assumption that you actually still have a job by then. Oh, and talking about arrogant and insufferable fans... I see that you are too young to have enjoyed the 80's and early 90's version of oiler fan.

@frank Frank, make your point and move along; don't attack the man's journalistic integrity. This is his blog, and he has the right to voice his opinion on it just as you have the right to question it. We're all hockey fans here regardless of which flag we fly from our vehicles, so let's keep it classy and on topic.

That being said, why would the young Oilers leave Edmonton for more money? We have an owner here that seems to have every intention of spending to the cap ceiling and he has the capital to do it, so if those guys bolt it won't be for the cash.
