Was Archie Bunker A Prophet?

Yesterday, we talked about whether it was a good idea to have a weapon to protect yourself in a public place.  In the days since the theatre shooting, Colorado has received nearly 3,000 applications for gun ownership, many for concealed-carry permits. That’s up about 45% over the week before.  This is a state where many people already have weapons, and now the issue of self-defense is boiling over.  We’re told the same thing happened after the Virginia tech shootings in 2007 and in Tucson in 2010.  Yesterday, I asked if arming more people was the solution we really wanted.  Bob replied by sending me a clip of Archie Bunker, from the 70’s sit-com at a time when planes were being highjacked to Cuba on a regular basis.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3o57hOxXHFc  Archie said the solution to highjackings was to give every passenger a pistol as they boarded, and collect them all at the ...
