Some lawyers are upset about this one. Bill 26. Blow over .08 and lose your Alberta driver’s license till the matter is settled in court. Lawyers say it just forces you to plead guilty. Or, it could force you to not drink and then drive. Yes, I know the trial is supposed to come before the punishment, but don’t they hold other people in jail for months before their trial? I’m thinking the Redford government must have gotten some legal opinions before deciding to lift licenses. And, you don’t hear a peep from these defense lawyers when their colleagues have clients who drive drunk and kill someone and don’t even go to jail. We’ve seen that happen more than once, haven’t we? But, lawyers don’t like lifting licenses from inebriates. Here’s my suggestion: Instead of dealing with the driver months later when he’s wearing a suit and has stopping slurring ...
