The Other Election

Today, we’re talking about the other election, for Senators in waiting.   Several emails from people asking what that is all about.  Ernest and Sonia suggest the government and media is keeping it a secret.  Grace just wants to know who these people are and what they do, besides put signs in boulevards.  On Monday, we’ll vote for three nominees to represent Alberta in the Senate.  When an opening comes up, the Prime Minister has the opportunity choose one of the three, maybe the one with the most votes.  No other province provides this.  There are 13 candidates.  Some have party ties and some are independent.  You’ll have to decide which is better.  As for what they plan to do for Alberta, you can find their names and platforms simply by Googling Alberta and election and senators.  Does the Senate even matter?  The Canada West Foundation website explains a properly designed ...
