It’s Friday, let’s have a look in the mailbag. .About the shooting of 14 year old Malala Yousafzai, many letters from people wondering why we support governments that allow the Taliban to operate.  About the Sandusky sentence, Tulip says 30 years is too long to feed and house him and if he’s going to die in prison anyway, they should just give him the needle, now.  She’s not alone in that thought.  About the premier’s lip butter expense, many think that’s more of a personal need the tax payer should not be responsible for.  About cars trying to cross through a funeral procession, Cathy says respect isn’t what it used to be.  In elementary school back in the 50s if they were out at recess when a funeral procession came by they were expected to stand quietly facing the cars until the procession was complete.  But; Ken wants the funeral right-of-way abolished.  He says it’s too dangerous with the amount of traffic these days.  And, Jacob says no one cut into the procession he was in, because they used Kenworth trucks.  Let me know what you think and have a great week-end.

If you want to discuss any of these things in person, I am speaking at the Women's Wellness Day in Barrhead, Nov. 2/12  http://www.facebook.com/WomensWellnessDay    I am also speaking in Vegreville Nov.22 and St. Paul Nov. 24.

The EPS states that Edmonton has a rampant speeding problem, I agree. I drive the speed limit and most days I am the slowest thing on the road. So if photo radar works so well why do we have a rampant speeding problem?

Bob replies: Because we don't have near enough photo radar out there.

@cap Bob, I think they would have enough if it was not for the fact that they place them in the same place so often it is a no brainer to avoid. Perhaps if they went to a grade six class and got some ideas on creativity and placement???

You notice that they never do drunk driver testing outside a bar????

Could be the peter principle in play???

You know Bob,...put the equipment, in proper operating order, in my vehicle, and on any day, 365-24-7....I would run out of film,....even though it's all digital,...snapping pictures on the QE11 highway.....all day and night catching speeders,....the flash would probably burn up.....I could,...for sure raise enough money in one day to cover the cost of another trip for Redford and her cronies,....in ONE NIGHT....just think what I could do in a year. Pay off the provincial debt,...to hell with the oilsands,....tell the Chinese to stuff their money!!!

I fully DISAGREE with the comment suggesting funeral right-of-ways be abolished, There are campaigns/advertisments regarding slowing down in constructions zone, drinking and driving, etc. Why not a campaign regarding the rules/laws when one encounters a funeral procession. Maybe with the subject being brought forth, more people would be reminded the procession has the right of way .... it may even get drivers to have a little more courtesy then what is displayed today.

    Hi Bob;

What more can I say. This is the most unbelievable appalling situation we could be in.

I cannot believe one man can put a whole city on such strings.

This has totally gone to far. It is like a nightmare.

I have stated my feelings many times to various people, including the Mayor. This whole situation should not have anything to do with the city
and the tax payer. The arena is a private venture, brings nothing personally to me. Yet I am expected to pay into the fund via my tax dollar.

What happen to the 430 mill; thenm 450 mill;then 485 mill; themn 516 mill. Now concessions to the tune 6mill.

Now Katz does not want to come up with his 100mill, but wants to pay it over time, which he won't live long enough for use to see paid.

Plus wants money back from us.

Where is the original unaccounted 100 million the city was looking for. This has seemed to be lost in the new clouded issues brought forth.

Smoke and mirrors as the old saying goes.

Again we should not even be involved in this. This is private industry. Maybe all those developers wanting to build Highrises in downtown should
ask for tax dollars and concessions in the name of revitalization of the downtown.

What would reviatlize downtown is longer shopping hours to existing Edmonton center and downtown stores as well as more parking and cheaper parking.

How about a new Mayor, who has gumption to not put up with this nonesence.

I do not know of any city that has an arena downtown that brings in revenue after a game, when everything is shut down.

New arena, maybe we need, but not at tax payers dollars. Besides we do not have the infrastructure to support the location. Do not kid yourself. Who wants to give up their cars and ride the LRT. ACCESSABLE< AFFORDABLE PARKING, PARKING, PARKING.

Better yet, Arena being a must???? Put it at the Municiple Airport. Actually a nice Park with recreation and indoor shopping center would be great at the Muni.
All that space, accessabile, infrastructure. Do not big cities (NEW YORK) have a nice park downtown. World famous and tourist attraction.

Let's put our tax dollars into helping the poor, the working poor, the homeless, the handicap, seniors.

There is more need for this than someone elses candy.

How can they say the tax payer wants a deal, the tax paer wants this or that.

I did not get a phone call, an e-mail; a letter....etc, asking my opinion or thought or want.

At one point I thought this should be brought forth to an election, but then as I say, this should not even be a question, not our problem.

If Katz cannot afford it, get out of it. Move / sell the oilers. Sell Rexall Place and put up some housing.

    Enough is Enough.

    Disgruntled and Betrayed;

    Larry

@Larry I agree with you Disgruntled Larry.....

The population of Edmonton proper is approx 812,201 people on a good beer day,........
Including the surrounding area is approx 1.2 million people....
Seating capacity for hockey games Rexall Place (soon to be renamed)...max...16839 seats....
Percentage of hockey fans to taxpayers is.... .0140325 percent....
Somebody please explain why 100 percent should pay for .0140325 percent of the population to enjoy sitting in a seat for a ****ing hockey game for a PRIVATE BUSINESSMAN!!!
Somebody please explain why this logic has never been brought up in the public by Katz or anybody.....???
Somebody please explain why nobody has bought new batteries for the calculators of the City Council???

3 more days DARYL!!! WE DON'T HEAR SOMETHING!!!

Time to come out of the Bat Cave!

Bob, I've had it with the Zellers employees complaining about Target not honoring their collective agreement and their seniority! Face it, Zellers is done! Your collective agreement with Zellers is also done! Seniority means nothing when a company is done! It's unfortunate but that's just the truth. Target owes nothing to Zellers employees.

@Dan Might be one of the reasons Dan....that Zellers kind of went down the tube.
I shopped at the one in Bonny Doon....and I did not find anything "exciting" about my experience...service staff nowhere to be found when inquiring about a product I came there to buy. Walmart had the staff and the answers,...bought it there!

Funeral procession proponents use the word "respect" over and over again. I was taught respect had to be earned and must be mutual. Long processions can clog up an entire quadrant of the city and then take half an hour or more to finally dissipate. Roads and their efficient operation are part of the backbone that our prosperity depends upon. What about showing respect to other motorists who have places to go and timelines to meet? Clogging up our roads needlessly will not bring the dead back to life, and claiming traffic jams are a necessary part of bereavement is the antithesis of respect. It is 2012 not 1912....abolish the right-of-way right away.

What a situation! Billionaire demanding welfare to build an arena and millionaire players who won't play a game the working class guy can't afford to buy tickets for anyway. Really? Is that the best you guys can do?? I've been a hockey fan for 40 years and this sickens me!! Get a grip all of you and quit the greed!! Boycott, Anyone??
