It’s Friday – let’s open the mailbag.  About crushing the cars of serious speeders, lots of support, but Bill would rather we sold the cars and put more money into policing.  Barry wants the speeder’s name in a data bank so they can never buy a car again.  About mis-delivered mail, many more examples.  Christine was ready to organize a neighborhood mail swap.  Brenda has never responded to an editorial but this one hit a nerve with her mail delivery.  About the arena talks, Billy wonders if Peter Pocklington could come back and negotiate this.  John hopes the city sticks to its deadline.  Jane says if Rexall Place is good enough for Paul McCartney it should be good enough for the Oilers.  As for re-naming the North Saskatchewan River for Peter Lougheed, ten year old Tobin hopes we don’t, he’s just learning the names of rivers.  Tyler says if we’re re-naming things, how about honoring Wayne Gretzky more by raising the speed limit on his road to 99?  And, Richard says “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Don’t be naming any more streets for people.  Our numerical system makes it an easy city to find your way around."   Let me know what you think.

Without a street map it is NOT easy to navigate Edmonton. Head east on 101 Avenue. How far can you go before you are no longer north of the river? Perhaps, if you are stubborn, you will be IN the river. Several times I have heard TV reporters say such things as, "At the corner of 124 Street and 107 Street....."
You would think that someone on TV would know their way around the city.
    Nope!

@Ken Does anyone know why "every" address in Edmonton is in "NW" Edmonton. Is there no division in Edmonton....what are we NW of?

The one that always cracks me up is the intersection of 66th street and Whitemud Drive. On the north of the Whitemud it is 66th street,...on the south side is 75th Street.
Try explaining that one to a travelling tourist. I still don't understand it!

@Bob $ I think there was an earthquake when all the oil companies from that area cleared out to move to Nisku. I think Jan Reimer was the mayor then!
