Politicians like to think the voters will forget and it’s a long time until the next election, but this time, the memory may go deeper.  People are still talking about the salaries people get in high provincial positions, and the huge expense accounts we, the taxpayer cover.  There is still lots of talk about the big money question that saw two health care higher-ups leave earlier this month.  At the other end of the scale, I hear about people who work in medical care, making under $20 an hour.  They save lives, they get spit on, they get abused, and they’re on call 24/7.  Then, they hear about someone at the public trough, spending more on one dinner than they make in a week.  I like the idea from the Taxpayers Federation.  All expense claims should be posted on-line.  We’re told they will be.  It’ll be interesting to see what gets approved.  Maybe instead of the thousand dollar dinner, they could eat for $20 each like the rest of us.  That’s what voters are talking about right now.  Will we forgive by the next election?  It may depend on whether we’re paying for a Big Mac or a big steak.  Let me know what you think.

The Alberta Tories promised transparency in the last election campaign, but when a question about disclosing expenditures came up they said they had to study what other jurisdictions are doing. What exactly did they mean when they promised transparency?

Then we get Berger's appointment to the patronage trough without comment from the Transparency and Accountability Minister.

Maybe to the Alberta P.C.s transparency means that patronism, cronyism and corruption are obvious.

It is hard to really get upset to a high degree about the spending habits of our governing people, as outlandish as they are, when we are faced with someone who kills two parents of five children by driving into them while drunk with an alcohol content of over three times the legal limit and with a history of many previous traffic infractions get off with seven months and a hand shake. What a slap in the face for each of the five children to see how our system valued their parents lives.
How can we as people that claim to be against drunk driving accept this as a reasonable outcome from our courts.
Is this driver that well connected or our courts that out of touch?

Bob replies: The ivory tower is well out of touch.

" I hear about people who work in medical care, making under $20 an hour."
I have had a lot of medical procedures in the past few years and one of the most disturbing things I have come in contact is just how disgruntled these medical workers are. They are very disturbed by the goings on in the government and with Alberta Health and this latest Merali business is just putting the final nails in the coffin..They are FED-UP to the brim!

Wait...Bob,...wait!! When the crap hits the fan and the results of the release of more expense accounts starts to be exposed in the media, we will truly see just what kind of government has been operating in this province.
Corruption,...corruption,...corruption,...corruption, that is all I have seen of this government and they've only actually been in power for a week! (time in the legislature)

Maybe,...they could pay for their own damn lunch at work,..like the rest of us. It's amazing how they can convince themselves to use the taxpayers wallet to impress,...their new friends,...and future "personal business" contacts!!
