Your Thoughts
Posted 8/10/2012 6:17:00 AM

It’s Friday and time to hear your comments.  About the $346,000 expense account:  Rob says it’s just a drop in the bucket when you consider the $600,000 silver balls and the cost of the Art Gallery and a new arena complex.  Danny says too many people are doing nothing about this when they should be writing their MLA.  Many letters from people who want to see expense claims posted for every person this government employs.  Fred wants us all to withhold taxes until we have the right of recall.  Mr. John wants to know if the no-meet committee members have paid back all that money.  Bob wonders with all the expensive dinners and wine, “Did this guy ever eat at home?”  Newshawker wants to establish a Freedom of Information Society.  Richard says either stop the gravy train or let the rest of us on.  And, Janine and her husband recently enjoyed a river cruise in Russia.  At dinner, the passengers were asked to name the countries they were from.  There were guests from all over the world, including Canada and Quebecois?  Janine says it was all the Canadians could do to remain calm.  Have a great week-end.

Qubecois!!! I think the next time they ask for a referendium we shouldn't let them have it. We should just cut them loose with what they brought into this country. Weren't they the defeated losers that had nothing when the British whopped their backsides. With them gone we could use all that money we send them in equalization payments for ourselves instead of giving it to a bunch of radicals that don't. appreciate what they have.

@Bill How ironic! These "quebecois" don't reallize that had it not been for the nation they were vacationing in, all of Europe, Russia and North America may well be speaking German. Canada was a major contributor to that war fighting for freedom. Many Canadians died for us, as well as Russians. If they are not proud to be from Canada, perhaps they can leave. Would Vichy France be there destination?

If this refers to International Opinion that Quebec is a different country, and not part of Canada....No surprise to me,...don't even get excited about it anymore.
Quebec, in spite of those who want to keep it together has for a long time been separated from Canadian society. I just wish they would get it over with, and pull the pin (railway term). Just make sure they turn in their Canadian funded checkbook!!!

I've never heard of a country called "Quebecois"! Why do Quebecers insist they are not from Canada?

Bob replies: They want to go. Maybe we should just let them.

Very different things in my opinion. Wasteful spending in an expense account is worlds away from an investment in a project that brings beauty and culture to the city. Maybe Rob would prefer it if Edmonton was an endless landscape of those unpaved parking lots, but for myself I'd rather pony up some tax dollars towards making this a city worth living in.

@Paul Hey Paul....would you mind sharing some of what you might be smoking?
I appreciate art too,...but I would have preferred that they spend this "allocated" money on something that "everyone" can relate too, and not just the chosen few who have some deluded concept of art.
Like for example, the art gallery??? (looks like they're tearing it down!), the new big full of hot air City of Edmonton balloon??? (what the hell is that?),,...the silver ball thingy??? (ditto),....the statue dedicated to the homeless (looks it should be the holocaust statue),...the statue dedicated to holocaust victims, (looks like a split bagel).
And speaking of parking lots. I remember sitting in Churchill Square, in the summer and winter, under the big oak trees, laying on the fresh cut, sweet smelling grass, having lunch or a short nap on the grass, seeing some of the folks sitting there and enjoying the hundreds of folks that used to go down there with their kids, everyday!!!
Now, the same "artwork" decision makers turned it into a one block of cold emotionless, devoid of people, hotter than hell in the summer, colder than hell in the winter, concrete slab, with in the ground lights that NEVER worked, ...with ZERO character,... is that the kind of "endless landscape" that you are referring too???
Maybe, it's time we got some NEW art directors,...cause these ones SUCK!

@Paul If a bunch of silver balls does all you say then it is likely that you need to get out a little more!!

I am on Aish.when a person is on Aish and receives cash monies as a gift
(birthday present and christmas gift we are to report this money to to
the government and the amount is deducted off our next pay
What makes government people who take money back  from people on Aish
think they do not have to pay back money that they have taken from tax
    payers?
They should pay back the money. I bet they will not have to pay it back
because they are considered to be important.  I hope that they do put
the spending on line for people to look at or they should have someone
decide if taxes payers should pay for that expense or they should ask
the people to vote on the expense

@JackR_9788 Ooooooh,....be very careful about your complaining Jack....or you could be punished if you make any noise, and your "workers" were to find out.

@JackR_9788 You are considered "important" Jack....if your story,...makes for a good News story to the government.....then you are "important!"

"Bob wonders with all the expensive dinners and wine, “Did this guy ever eat at home?"
From what I can see looking over these 778 pages of documents, it doesn't look like he ever did!
But what is even more puzzling, what did they need this "Shirley" chick for,....to "approve" the money spent,...that was ALREADY SPENT???
It clearly states that individuals cannot authorize their OWN expenses,...but when the guy has the credit card and it's used in whatever way he wants....how do you correct THAT??? Put the credit card company on the "hook??"
    What a stupid system!!!

I try to look at things from the bright side (leave it alone Bob),....Look at the bright side,....if Quebec was to leave Confederation,....not only would we save BILLIONS in transfer payments out of OUR pockets.....our tax base wouldn't change because of them....but then maybe,....some of US here in Western Canada could win the 6/49 and Lotto Max draws,...and not have it always going down EAST!!!
