Your Opinion
Posted 7/6/2012 4:10:00 AM

It’s Friday, time for your thoughts.  About highway 63, Liz writes to say we’ve got lots of money in the Heritage Trust Fund – twin the highway and recover the cost with a toll.  But, Judy and Fred say a toll would be a disgrace; the road should have been twinned with royalty money.  About the young man refused admission to the U-S because of a marijuana conviction, Bob hopes that also applies to the Vancouver rioters.  About waiting for the Supreme Court decision on whether a battered wife can hire a hit man, Robert says that can’t be allowed no matter what the circumstance, but another says it seems sometimes like the courts favor the guilty over the innocent.  And about lifting the operator’s licenses of drunk drivers on the spot, Bill wants them locked up until they get to court, so they don’t just drive without a license, but Glen says what we really need is much tougher penalties for impaired driving.  Dawn writes about the province paying for gender reassignment surgery.  Dawn says she is also unhappy with her original body.  This one has MS.  She wonders when Premier Redford will stand up for her. Let me know what you think and have a great week-end.

I require surgery to remove excess weight (all in one place - one operation),...called an "apron!". This mass prevents good circulation and obstructs good blood flow to my legs, which causes ulcerations and fluid build up in my legs. Diabetes is a side effect of this problem. Removal of this would improve my circulation, reduce and/or prevent the ulcerations, and advised by my doctor would probably reverse my diabetes. The side effects would be a once again productive, fruitful, healthier life, and an optimistic future.
Can't get the operation,...because it is considered "cosmetic" What a pile of crap!!!!
Who are these people that come up with these diagnoses and deadly decisions??????

Once again,...."Government by Panic". We need a public website to "drop their shorts" DAILY in the front of the public. It is the only thing that seems to get results!

Premier Redford and party appropriating healthcare funding for gender reassignment surgeries is politically advantageous , allaying with this special interest group earn$ party patronage.
Citizens suffering from incapcitating excruciating pain mentally and physically like Multiple sclerosis are left with no relief/hope except expensive toxic pharma drugs and useless therapies when there are innovative surgical procedures obtainable.

Unfortunately job creation$ and billion$ profited in healthcare, pharmaceutical and "non-profit " fundrai$ing conglomerates stand in the way of humanity and true medical progress/cures. Economically suicidal and we taxpayers are collateral damage, politically speaking.
    IMHO

Contacted our family doc yesterday wondering why I haven't had a call from a surgeon concerning my hernia. They checked my file, a request for an appointment was made in May but they hadn't heard back yet.

This must mean I'm not even on a waiting list to have an examination let alone surgery in the future. No wonder Dave Rutherford flew to a private hernia clinic in Ontario.

The longer the wait the worse your hernia becomes. Friends and family are concerned that it may become strangulated, causing risk of death which happened to a friend with a double hernia. Of course he was sailing near a banana republic country at the time. What's Alberta's excuse, I wonder. Oh yes, I forgot, Crats are too occupied spending our tax dollars on body parts swapping.

Redford and cronies must have hormonal problems affecting common sense.

The problem with getting an officer to do anything "on the spot" is that the officer has now become accuser, judge, jury and executioner. That's a lot of power for one individual to wield; it can also be abused easily. It also sends us down a slippery slope towards a bad place. Where you are guilty until you prove yourself not.

@Brian "That's a lot of power for one individual to wield; it can also be abused easily."
I know you are aware of this Brian,....but that power has been abused many times in very recent history. Just think about the woman in Edmonton who was "executed" who had a toy gun in her hand and was obviously impaired. Don't tell me for one second they couldn't have shot this woman in the leg or other part of her body to bring her down,...but "DEAD" center in the chest. These police have a shoot to kill policy "no matter what the situation",....because they are AFRAID of us,....poor babies!!!

$700K to $1 million per year is the amount that that the Government is supposedly spending for transgender surgery. A drop in the bucket for health spending and a rounding amount on the entire budget. A lot to the average working person but really just a tiny amount of spending. With all the energy that people are spending on this issue they could be out protesting the cut to OAS eligibility, the terrible state of long term nursing care, the high price of post secondary tuition, the long waits in medicentres and hospitals, and the stress on the health system from bar and gang fights. Or go to you MLA about the medical issues you feel should be covered as well. It doesn't have to be an "us" or "them" attitude.
