False Food
Posted 6/26/2012 1:47:00 AM

So, what have you eaten, today?  Was it good for you?  How do you know?  Are you weary of the fractured food claims?  First red meat was bad and then not so bad.  We were told that pomegranate juice prevented a whole host of things for people entering the retirement years.  Now, an American Trade Commission judge says we were duped.  To Twist Mark Twain, reports on our pomegranate health have been greatly exaggerated.  The great American hallmark of freedom of speech has seemingly allowed the commercial makers to make claims about anything.  I heard one say under questioning that it was his opinion, that his product was the best.  Now, when it comes to wellness wonders, Uncle Sam seems to be pulling in his holistic horns, although the vacillation continues over the benefits of coffee beans. Hazel nuts have not been so lucky, with Nutella nailed for claiming it was a healthy way to start the day.  I was waiting at the bakery for the whole wheat bread to come out, when another customer said to me, “Bob, one day you’ll die and it won’t matter what you ate.”  Is he right? Let me know what you think.

I gave up years ago listiening to the claims that product A was good or bad for you. It always seems that later someone always claims the opposite so why bother listening to them.

There are no 'wonder cures'. There are no 'miracle diets'. Aboriginal people knew that hundreds of years ago and it still stands true today. If we eat moderately and eat a balanced and varied diet then we will achieve good health. The best part of that is we don't need to worry and fret over bogus and bloated claims: "FOLKS FOLKS FOLKS! STEP RIGHT UP FOR A BOTTLE OF THIS MAGIC ELIXIR!" Save your money and your time.

Bob replies: You are so right!

It's true Bob we all have to go at some point. However if your diet if very harsh on your system I guess you will go quicker and maybe with long term issues that could have been prevented. My peeve is the false advertisement for instance the mini shreddies commercial we have all seen the one where the mini shreddie is dancing with a blueberry and a strawberry indicating that they are in the middle of him. If you read the label you will see there isn't any strawberry at all and barely any berries, there is some apple. Shame on them!

Bob replies: I hate when they lie to us.

He is right, Bob. Take a look at the letter by Dianne Wood of Newmarket in the National Post: http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/06/26/todays-letters-an-overpaid-postie-defends-her-sick-days/

    To the other customer,

    1. Unless what you eat makes you ill or killed you.
    2. If you are dead. it's those left behind that it will matter to.
    3. Food matters.
    4. Food allergies are on the rise.
    5. Check your pulse. Today, it matters.

    Have a nice day.

Remember when the trend was organic?

Even heard a report that they were no more healthier than inorganic, in fact they were worse.

And we are all going to die, I don't want to have a problem with dying. I just don't want to be there when it happens. But we can postpone and allow us to enjoy life.

But I wonder what ever happened to common sense? Work out more, drink moderately, eat fewer chips, and so forth.

Once again, everyone looking for a magic cure. MODERATION and VARIETY are the key. Too much of anything can kill you. As for the whole wheat/grain bread, I eat it BECAUSE I LIKE IT, if it's better for me, that's a bonus.

I would, however, hypothesize that the closer our food is to natural, the better it is for us. Millions of years of evolution made our bodies function on the foods nature provides. It is only in the last century or so that science/corporations have decided they're smarter than nature/evolution. (Or even God if you choose that theory)

Eat what you want...(it's your body and your death) but I would like to see legislation that lists all products that contain GMO products. That's becoming a HUGE issue in California and Europe is all over that....make educated choices!

"They" say if it's from God,...it is good for you,...if it's not,....then it "isn't". With that said, I'm going outside a chew on a tree!
