CORUS Feeds Kids

Today is CORUS Feeds Kids day. CORUS radio stations across Canada are accepting donations for local food banks to buy “kid friendly” foods. When I was a kid my dad went from job to job, honoring his responsibility to feed his family. Then, the jobs dried up and so did the kitchen cupboard and there were children and a worried mom waiting for supper. My dad’s prized possession was a German Luger pistol he brought home from the war. He put it in his belt and put some shells in the pocket of a jacket that would conceal the pistol. Downtown he walked up and down the streets trying to figure out how to get the money to feed his family. I can’t imagine the terrible thoughts that went through his head. Finally, a non-drinker, he walked into a bar and unzipped his jacket, exposing the weapon. The bartender made it plain he wanted no trouble. “Take what you want.” Dad asked if he knew anyone who might want to buy the pistol. The bartender said, “You’re looking at him.” And, so it was, we had supper that night. There was no Food Bank, then. There is now. Would you help CORUS feed kids? Donation information back on the home page.
