Mailbag Day
Posted 5/4/2012 3:38:00 AM

It’s Friday, let’s open the mailbag and the email and Twitter feed.  About highway 63, Chipper tweets thousands drive it every day. If the road was at fault, there would be a lot more accidents.  Chasemdown tweets a lack of police on 63 is a problem. Clint tweets impatient drivers equal fatal mistakes.  Brad tweets get the whole thing twinned and it’ll just be a super racetrack.  Carnwood says a few more passing lanes would be adequate.  He says twinning is just pandering to bad drivers.  Murray says maybe people don’t realize there is a second highway to Fort McMurray.  He encourages you to take the scenic route through Conklin.  About Henry Kozak’s fence, damaged when vandals tore down his Thomas Lukaszuk sign, he says a big thank you to MLA Lakaszuk who’s going to get him some help fixing it and paying for it.  About regressive women’s rights in Egypt, Kathy says don’t forget about Canada with the Pay Equity Act gone, and budget cuts to the Status of Women.  Jim still wants to know who the silver balls are for along the Whitemud.  He says to stare at them as you go by amounts to distracted driving.   Add your comment below.

I wonder if the suspended maritime schoolboy would have been suspended if his shirt had read "Allah is Great"

Yes twin highway 63 and then we can have 2 raceways in Alberta QE 11 and highway 63. People are worried about traveling on highway 2 (QE11) now due to the speed and lane changes also the slow person driving in the passing lane. And when there is an accident on QE11 the back up of traffic is for many miles. Thoses that want highway 63 twinned take a look or drive QE11.

I think that a easy temp fix for highway 63 would be to allow the big trucks to only travel on the road for a fixed amount of time. Example 11:00 pm to 5:00 am. That way the trucks could convoy together and it wouldn't upset any drivers. People could then plan when they want to travel that road. The oil companies could still move there equipment knowing what what the schedule is. A win win .

@Tim Filtz That would be a GREAT idea there Tim!
Then,...when that 16 foot wide bladed caterpillar or the 20 foot wide tank sticking out 8 feet on either side of the trailers it is riding on, would be totally invisible to see,...well,...except for those flapping fluorescent wide load flags that you headlights might light up,...if they aren't covered by too much crude oil, just before they take the roof of your pick-up truck off!

The cost of those silver balls along the whitmud could have paid for some brand new homes for a single mom or a family in need. But the city seems to think a big pile of silver balls is contributing to society??!!

If the Supreme Court of Canada allowed Moslem kids to wear small daggers to school, then a Christian kid should be allowed to wear his t-shirt to school.

Move the Silver Balls to Churchill Square, closer to the Arts District, that would be more
appropriate than distracting Drivers on the Whitemud "Freeway".

@Max Great Idea Max!!! My thoughts when I saw these "balls" for the first time....why didn't they build this hanging from the "inside" of the triangle over city hall..?
That way Mandell and the other higher mentalists could see it as their spaceships as having finally arrived to take them away from painful earth to their reward in the herebeyond,...special place,..."not" heaven,..to their reward. Maybe,...even construct loading ramps which would lead up to the balls, for departure day,....???,....

The chrome balls on the white mud should be relocated outside City Hall. The balls could then be used by some councillors when important decisions are voted on by council.h

Hi Bob. I heard that the Fire Department wants to be able to have green lights when it gets to intersections. My question is: why did they get rid of the old system? They used to have green lights. In front of the doors at the fire station closest to my house there used to be a red light. You could tell they were going to a call when it turned red. A few years ago they got rid of it. I'm not connected like you Bob, maybe you can find out why.

Bob replies: The new sysem takes them through all the intersections, not just the first one by the fire station.
