Voting Day
Posted 4/23/2012 1:46:00 AM

The final push of any election is always to try to get people out to vote.  Happy citizens are often more apt to stay home, while those who want change make the effort.  Even a heavy turn-out for an advance poll does not guarantee the same for voting day.  All over the social media people are urging you to vote.  One points out Hitler was elected, and says we should study the platforms first, and then vote responsibly.  Some want the laws changed to make voting compulsory, like it is in Australia.  They tout their system as truly showing the will of the electorate.  Australians believe it’s your duty to vote the same as it is to be taxed, and say it leaves politicians free to campaign on the issues right to the end, without having to beg people to come out to the polls.  I’ve been asked many times who I think will win, and who I hope will win.  I hope the people of Alberta win.  I hope we all win by having a say in who leads this province.  I hope we get the government we need by voting, rather than the government we deserve by not casting a ballot.  Let me know what you think.

If we can't claim to have the government we deserve, then at least we can claim to come from the sophisticated part of the province ;)

I agree with the Australians; Voting should be mandatory. If you don,t vote, don,t
    complain later.

    **ONE IMPORTANT QUESTION**
I only have one question before the election on Monday.
How many of the PC candidates have or have not paid back the $40,000.00 they each received for the NO MEET - NON PERFORMANCE committee???
Where do I find the answer to that information before Monday, April 23,2012 "D" day

    ***STILL UNANSWERED***

Bob replies: Ask your local candidate.

@The Infidel - Mr.John I don't trust the currently elected candidates opinions or words. I will ask my New Wildrose elected candidate starting tomorrow. I will also see what legal action can be take to get our money back, I'm sure that party has some good ideas about this!

People don't vote because they feel it is a waste of time since no matter who you vote in, the result is always the same. The politicians are under tremendous pressure to bend to the needs of the large corporations, so it is more about what serves them rather than the citizens. I also feel that people should not be forced to vote, we have lost enough freedoms to date, and we are losing more daily.

Bob replies: And, only because this is a democracy do you have the right to feel that way.

@Sharon The democracy is quickly turning into a dictatorship. I understand Sharon’s apathy. Voting is supposed to be our chance to make a change but nothing ever does. Einstein said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. I wish people would take these elections more seriously. I've noticed however if a group does start to make noise about the corruption they are quickly silenced or ridiculed by the mainstream media. I lost family in the wars to supposedly defend our freedoms and it makes me sad to see what they fought for is slowly but surely being ground away. A little at a time day in and day out. Remember people, there are others that will come into this putrid system (your kids and grandkids). If we let these warmongers and psychopaths keep running things they will be born into slavery. We are now but so many refuse to see it. VOTE WITH YOUR CONSCIENCE NOT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!

I don't agree that voting should be compulsory. I believe that everyone SHOULD get informed and then vote, but it is our right to vote and it should remain our right not to vote. I don't lose sleep over my neighbor who did not vote. I'm happy for everyone who did vote, particularly those who made an informed vote.

I believe strongly that people should vote - if they've taken the time to educate themselves about the issues and the platforms of the candidates. Forcing people to vote may not show the will of the electorate; it might instead show the ignorance of the electorate.

It seems we got the government we deserve. Not because of NOT voting, but because of HOW many voted. It seems many centre-left voters chose to vote AGAINST the Wild Rose Party, by voting FOR the PC's, instead of voting for the best candidate for the job. (Raj Sherman in my opinion.) Now I must admit I did not vote for my local Liberal candidate as I could not find enough about him to determine if HE was the best candidate for the job. I think there should be a website where all registered candidates post their resumes, (Perhaps randomly screened to prevent BS'ing.) so that we, their prospective employers, can make a proper decision about who we truly want to hire for the job opening.
