Political Pastoring
Posted 4/16/2012 1:30:00 AM

With just days to go until the vote, emotions are running high in some areas and rabbit ears are up for any little mistake or misspeak the other party might make or anything that can be blown up bigger than it really is.  At this point, there seems to be few children playing nice in the sandbox.  One man in Grande Prairie tells me his boss is warning of oil patch lay-offs if a certain party gets elected.  Mike says he got an automated call warning him about the destruction of the economy and asking for his vote, but Mike says he does not support a machine, only humans he can talk with.  He is annoyed by a party that sends a machine to do their talking.  He wonders if this is how they will communicate in the future.  There is discussion over the pastor/candidate who posted the homosexual remarks on his blog.  He now says his personal views do not reflect his party’s views and he rejects intolerance.  Political posturing or political pastoring?  How are politicians playing in your part of the province?

Talking machines frustrate me, especially when I need assistance and I call and a machine answers. Have you ever tried to get through to a government department?
Now they are using the machines to try and get elected! I am not impressed.

With what happened to Mike, with the automated call warning system, um... isn't that called the robocalling scandal?

I find it very interesting that the "blog" by the Pastor didn't materialize before "NOW!" I also found it very interesting that Peter Lougheed NOW shows up out of nowhere retirement to support Alison Redford....Where was he before this??? The polls are not in favor of the PCs so I guess that explains it!!
Re: the Pastor,...it was "HIS" blog and not the Wildrose Parties blog,..his opinion on his blog site! If there are those who were offended,...and this is enough to influence you to not vote for him....then DON'T vote for him.

Tell the guy NOT to worry,...the Green Party isn't running in this election campaign,...Elizabeth May was just passing through town and wanted to wish Danielle Smith all the best in her victory!!!

I thought we weren't bringing up the issues of homosexual preference and pro-life choice, etc. during this election. It appears somebody who is "losing" is.
You know, I wonder if anybody has ever done a poll of the ministers, priests, pastors, and spiritual advisers of all denominations as to their personal/private preferences as to homosexuality and it's role, real or perceived, in our society. Don't think I have ever seen that anywhere, probably because they keep it private and it's none of my business!

Two things. "One man in Grande Prairie tells me his boss is warning of oil patch lay-offs if a certain party gets elected" sounds like Ukraine just before the Orange Revolution.

Secondly, the use of robocalls is because so few volunteer. Now isn't getting to the bottom of that a news story?

Put a mark on the wall. I have lived here for over thirty years and this is the first time I have had my MP come to my door.
I pointed out to him that it will likely cost us a lot of money to get rid of him but that it is an expense that I am in total agreement with.

    Bob replies: Ouch!

Yes indeedy, the gloves are off. Our present nanny statist premier is probably really scared now, so out comes the horrid homophobic pastor, as well as other scary things. Well what scares me is Ms. Redford's record, a body armor ban? Give me a break, I shoot competitively and part of our leagues P.P.E. is body armor(Optional, although, my wife insists I wear it while competing.) 0nly a fool, or an afore mentioned nanny statist would believe that ones personal beliefs, or banning objects will do anything to solve the ills of society. To the worried Homosexuals in Alberta, don't, Dannielle Smith is very much the real deal as far as libertarionism goes, so your rights are far safer with her and the Wild Rose than what we have now. And as a member of the W.R. for some time now, I don't remember any rampant anti anything, other than anti big bureaucracy from any members of the Wild Rose that I've met.

Bob replies: Legit people can still get the body armor.

Wildrose Party Anti Gay blog, shame on you.- Danielle Smith- take note -you bet personal beliefs and values spill over into candidate's politics, how can they not... how we do one thing is how we do everything!!

Bob replies: It was not the party's blog, but they appear to condone it, unless they ordered him to take it down.

@ShaunaM_4002 You obviously have to adjust your horse blinders ShaunaM.....It was not a Danielle Smith blog,....It was the Pastor's personal blog and his views,...and I agree with him....but NONE of this has to do with Danielle Smith or the Wildrose Party....He does not speak for the Wildrose,...and Danielle Smith has made it very clear that his views are not the view of the Wildrose Party....You obviously didn't GET that???

Bob replies: It was his personal belief, not the party's. But it's also about his desire to govern. The party took no action. We'll see what the voters do on Monday.

@ShaunaM_4002 Redford is a bomb dropper...The day of the debate....some crap about paying money to a delegates funding...bombed....pure crap!...Now, the Lougheed bomb....so far it's bombed....then the homophobic bomb....that bombed too.... Many who will vote for the pastor feel the SAME way that he does. It is not the Party view. Successful bombs....the NO MEET committee..bomb that blew up in her face....transition payments,...nother bomb that blew up in her face....golden handshakes,....yep....nother bomb that she pulled the fuse out too late....blew up in her face....
I wonder how many bombs she has kept secret up till now,...waiting to see them blow up in her face again! Nanny Red....it's over,...get on with your lift....and your transition payment....OH....wait another bomb,...you suspended that,..and you don't have one!!! Kabooooooom!!!!!

Bob replies: The best laid plans of mice and men...

Interesting that leaders of both main parties choose to worship in Sikh and Hindu temples on the Christian day of worship, in a province that was once considered the Bible belt of Canada. Do the Christian votes not count or do they consider it politically incorrect to associate with christians?

@Angus Well, that seems to be very intolerant of you...those blasphemers,...what were they thinking?
Question for you....without thinking,...what is the 5th book of the Bible?...and how does it start?
Going to their temples on any day.....just try and get in there if you aren't a political leader,....let me know how that goes for you???

@Angus Are your certain that they didn't also attend a Christian service on the same day...Are you certain?

As a child of the Holocaust, I have learned to appreciate the freedom this country has brought, to respect authority and be thankful for what I have earned.

I must admit I am a little frustrated.
My parents taught me to vote at each election as it is my democratic right.
I am finding it harder and harder to make an informed choice Bob.
You see the candidates in my riding come to my door where I have a sign clearing posted stating "NO SOLICITING" and ring my doorbell day after day, distubing my family time to trash their rivals, instead telling me what good they will do in my community.
My phone has been ringing off the hook with these and other candidates calling at all hours, even though I have an unlisted number, subscribe to a "DO NOT CALL LIST" and never I give out my home number.
When I point to my sign, or tell them I have an unlisted number, I am told "Oh, this does not apply to political candidates!"
    "Seriously?"
Since when? Do they not follow rules, regulations, policies and procedures?
    "REALLY?"
    Is this new?
Perhaps the persons I spoke to were just annoyed I challenged them; so I challenged each phone call, and every caller was met with very simular results.
The last few calls I received, I just stated, "I will vote for the candidate who DOES NOT DISTURB ME AT HOME!" and hung up!
I will be removing my phone this week and training my dogs to eat politicians.

Bob replies: They also get to ignore the laws about posting unsightly signs on the blvd.

@CHRISTIE ADAMSON "I will be removing my phone this week and training my dogs to eat politicians."
You're gonna have to use a lot of seasoning Christie,...if you're going to even get a nibble out of your dogs!
So,...just curious,...how did you find out there even was an election?
