At long last May long weekend is here.
With this being the unofficial start of camping season, Albertans are heading out doors to celebrate.
“We know we that we have pretty high reservation rates on our campsites this may long,” said Minister of Environment and Parks Shannon Phillips.
Don’t worry though, if you’re still scrambling to find a spot; you’re in luck.
“There still are last minute and first come first serve sites in our provincial parks,” Phillips stated.
Phillips said last year there was 5,800 online campsite registrations for the May long weekend, with that number increasing to 6,200 already this year.
“Last year was a record reservation year in Alberta parks and it was a record year in visitation to Alberta parks,” said Phillips.
Despite recent rain, Phillips said that most campgrounds are ready for the may long weekend.
Phillips encourages people to check out the Parks Alberta website to find any park or campsite openings. (BM)
