The Edmonton Oilers are happy with a 2-0 series lead over the Anaheim Ducks but not happy with how they played in a 2-1 win on Friday night.
“They did a good job of putting pucks on net and getting second, third chances from that. That’s something we can keep improving on,” said centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. “Usually when you shoot, you get the puck back. We just have to keep that in mind and put as much as we can to them.”
The Oilers were outshot 40-23 but had their bacon saved by goaltender Cam Talbot. They’re hoping to not put all the work on Talbot when they host the Ducks in game three Sunday night.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun to see the atmosphere in this building and see how much energy the fans have tonight,” said Nugent-Hopkins. Going back to the regular season, the Oilers have won 11 of their last 12 at Rogers Place.
“We have to come out here and play a much more disciplined game against a team that’s going to play their best game of the series,” said Talbot. “They’re going to be extremely desperate tonight.”
The Oilers expected lineup is:
Maroon – McDavid – Draisaitl
Lucic – Nugent-Hopkins – Eberle
Caggiula – Letestu – Kassian
Pouliot – Desharnais – Slepyshev
Sekera – Russell
Klefbom – Larsson
Nurse – Benning
The Oilers and Ducks are on 630 CHED with the Face-off Show at 3pm. The game starts at 5pm. (jrw)
