The Alberta Liberals will spend the weekend vetting two people who submitted leadership nomination papers on Friday.
Two possible candidates stepped forward Friday, just hours before the 5 p.m. deadline.
“We’ve had two candidates submit all their paperwork, and meet the requirements from their end,” said the party’s Gwynneth Midgely.
Kerry Cundal ran previously under the party banner in a 2015 Calgary by-election.
The other possible candidate, David Khan, told 630 CHED’s Ryan Jesperson Friday, “We’ve got to look forward and look to rebuilding the party.”
Khan is currently the Alberta Liberals executive vice president. “We need to ensure there is a real choice for Albertans who reside between the two extremes of left and right.”
Both contenders are lawyers and live in the Calgary area.
Earlier in the week St. Albert mayor Nolan Crouse withdrew his name, citing “private reasons.”
Liberal leadership organizers will vet the nominees before making a final announcement on candidates on Monday morning. (eb)
