Ponoka RCMP are apologizing after they said someone was wrongly named after three men were arrested after a stolen vehicle investigation.
Police said the men were arrested after a stolen F-350 truck and some stolen goods were tracked down in Crestomere, Alta., 45 kilometres north of Red Deer. When the men produced identification, officers said one of them didn’t use his own and pretended to be someone else for his entire time in custody.
Police are now trying to track that person down after releasing him for his March 24 court date. In addition to the charges he previously faced, police are now tacking on personation and possession of identity document.
Police believe they’ve now correctly identified him, but say his actual name cannot yet be released.
