I’ve had the privilege of seeing some exciting technology evolve.
From the telephone party line to the dial phone, and then the cell phone.
As a small boy, I remember my dad’s friends gathering to see the first car in the neighborhood with an automatic transmission.
I recall the day they removed the typewriters from the newsroom and brought in computers.
Now, more and more articles are appearing about driverless vehicles, and we’re told Edmonton can be in the forefront of testing them because of our winter road conditions.
I’ve been told by a car dealership that the lane and other cameras on their cars don’t work when there is snow or ice on the road, because the cameras can’t see the lines, so the system does not even switch on.
Edmonton has been the leader in other areas and if they can make this work, it will be just one more reason to be proud of our city.
I wonder if driverless vehicles could mean the end of drunk drivers and speeders and pedestrian collisions and hit and runs.
As grandparents watch in awe, encourage the grandchildren to pay attention in science class.
Let me know what you think about all the new technology.
